What You Should Know

PSE&G is prepared for the freezing rain, sleet and snow forecast to begin tonight through most of tomorrow, particularly in northern areas of New Jersey. These conditions may cause tree limbs to break and pull down wires, causing outages. Ice buildup on power lines is always a concern, as is the safety of our employees who must work in slippery conditions.

We are staffed and ready to respond to outages if they arise. PSE&G prepares year-round for extreme weather to maintain reliable service for our customers.

Be safe and prepared

  • Learn how to be safe during a storm event. Review our storm preparation tips.
  • Stay away from downed wires; they should always be considered live. Stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines, and don’t go near the pole or anything touching the line. Immediately call PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) to report downed wires and dial 911 if an immediate hazard exists.
  • Downed wires can potentially be hidden in standing water. Be aware that electric current passes easily through water, so if you encounter large pools of standing water, stop, back up, and choose another path.
  • To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, do not run any gasoline-powered generators in a garage or other enclosed space.
  • If you have no heat, or are having trouble with your heating appliance, please make an appointment by scheduling online at pseg.com/myaccount or calling 1-800-350-PSEG (7734).
  • If you (or a member of your household) rely on electricity to operate life-sustaining equipment, please notify PSE&G. To learn more, visit pseg.com/life or call 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).
