Heavy rain, high winds and possible flooding expected |
|
|
|
Heavy rain and increased winds are expected to impact our service area this weekend. Starting Sunday afternoon, the weather system could bring hazardous wind gusts – enough to potentially topple trees, bring down branches on wires and cause outages. Additionally, some parts of our service area could experience flooding.
PSE&G is closely monitoring this incoming weather front, and we are prepared for potential impacts on the system. Our workforce prepares year-round for extreme weather to maintain reliable service for our customers. More than a decade after Superstorm Sandy raged across the East Coast, PSE&G continues to work to protect customers’ utility service from the damaging impact of extreme weather by strengthening and upgrading its infrastructure. These improvements help reduce the number of outages and speed up restoration when they do happen. Due to continual investments in our infrastructure and technology, PSE&G is among the most reliable utilities in the nation.
We have crews and resources ready to respond safely and efficiently to any outages should they occur. We are also prepared to respond to gas emergencies that may occur due to flooding. Our teams of dedicated PSE&G employees will continue to work hard to ensure continuity of electric and gas service. We encourage customers to know how to stay safe during and after a storm and how to report/track an outage.
Stay safe: |
- Stay away from downed wires; they should always be considered live. Stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines. Don’t go near the pole or anything touching the line, and don't drive over downed wires. Immediately contact PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734), or through our mobile app or website, to report downed wires and dial 911 if an immediate hazard exists.
- Downed wires can potentially be hidden in standing water. Be aware that electric current passes easily through water, so if you encounter large pools of standing water, stop, back up, and choose another path.
- To prevent carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, do not run any gasoline-powered generators in a garage or other enclosed space.
- If you (or a member of your household) rely on electricity to operate life-sustaining equipment, please notify PSE&G. To learn more, visit pseg.com/life or call 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).
- Flood waters often conceal hazards that are not immediately obvious—and some of them can be deadly. Know what to do in a flood emergency:
- If you smell gas, call PSE&G immediately at 1-800-880-7734 (PSEG) or 911.
- Remember that pools of water may become electrically charged. Appliances in standing water may also become charged, so do not touch them after they have become surrounded by water.
- Don’t go into basements with standing water, raw sewage or obvious electric hazards. Stay away from the breaker box in a flooded basement.
